Governance

Accountable by design.

African Renaissance Trust is registered under Kenyan trust law and governed by a Board of Trustees. Transparency in leadership, advice, and financial reporting is not an obligation we manage — it is how we build the institutional trust our work depends on.

Why governance matters here

Trust is a precondition for access.

We operate at the intersection of continental policy, sovereign donor relationships, and community accountability. Every one of those relationships requires institutions to trust us with access, resources, and influence.

That trust is earned through consistent delivery, transparent governance, and the kind of institutional rigour that can withstand scrutiny. The three sections below are how we demonstrate it.

Governance structure

Three layers of accountability.

Leadership

The Board of Trustees and executive team who govern the organisation, set strategic direction, and are ultimately accountable for its performance and integrity.

  • Board of Trustees — fiduciary oversight and long-horizon institutional stewardship
  • Executive leadership — programme delivery, partnership management, and day-to-day operations
  • Conflict of interest, safeguarding, and anti-bribery policies in force across all engagements
Meet the leadership

Advisory Panel

A panel of technical, legal, and policy experts who provide independent counsel on programme design, institutional decisions, and the broader strategic direction of the organisation.

  • Independent technical and policy advisors drawn from across the continent
  • Counsel on programme design, risk, and strategic prioritisation
  • No executive authority — advisory function is kept distinct from governance

Annual Reports

Our annual programme and financial reports — the primary accountability mechanism for donors, partner institutions, and the communities whose interests we serve.

  • Annual external audit and unqualified financial reporting
  • Programme performance narrative covering all three pillars
  • Donor-compliant reporting in line with Kenya Revenue Authority requirements
