Background & History

We were established in 2019 as a Pan-African think tank inspired by the ideals of Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance, which are central to Africa’s Agenda 2063. Our formation was in response to long-standing inequalities that continue to limit dignity, opportunity, and well-being across the continent.

From the start, our focus has been on generating ideas, evidence, and partnerships that shape policies and support Africa’s shared vision for inclusive and people-centred development. Today, our work continues to contribute to Agenda 2063’s aspiration for a healthy, empowered, and socially just Africa.

A Force for Progress

We work at the intersection of vision and reality, serving as a bridge between Africa’s long-term development goals and the everyday experiences of its people. By bringing together research, policy dialogue, and lived experience, we help shift conversations towards solutions that are practical, inclusive, and African-led.

Our work supports Agenda 2063’s call for accountable leadership, strong institutions, and active citizen participation. Through collaboration and shared responsibility, we help ensure that progress is not only planned on paper but also felt in communities and households across Africa.

What we are doing

Our work is organised around interconnected thematic areas that reflect the priorities of Agenda 2063 and drive our theory of change. They Include:

Policy and Governance

Promoting inclusive, transparent, and accountable policymaking in line with Africa’s governance aspirations.

Socio-Economic Justice

Addressing structural inequalities to expand opportunity, social protection, and shared prosperity.

Gender Equality

Advancing gender-responsive policies that support women’s empowerment and equal participation in all spheres of life.

Research and Knowledge

Producing African-led evidence to inform policy, track progress, and strengthen accountability.

Health Equity

Supporting health systems that contribute to Agenda 2063’s vision of a healthy and well-nourished population.

Advocacy and Convening

Creating spaces for dialogue and collaboration among policymakers, experts, and communities to drive action.

What Success Looks Like

Our success is defined by outcomes that reflect the spirit of Agenda 2063:

Policy impact

Promoting inclusive, transparent, and accountable policymaking in line with Africa’s governance aspirations.

Stronger collaboration

When institutions, leaders, and communities work together with shared ownership and accountability.

People-centered change

When policy decisions lead to better health, greater equality, and improved livelihoods for African families and communities.
